                                               Ekushey Book Fair
Ekushey book fair, officially known as "Amar Ekushey Boi Mela," is a symbol of the struggle that brought us the freedom to speak our language. It commemorates the martyrs of the Language Movement of 1952. The fair is generally held on the premises of the Bangla Academy throughout the month of February every year. At the book fair, there are hundreds of bookstalls selling different types of books, arranged by various famous publishers of our country. A few bookstalls are also organised by some leading cultural organisations of the country. All kinds of books, from fiction, drama, poetry and novel to biography, translation, children's literature, story books, etc. can be found at the fair. Besides the book stalls, there are information counters, food stalls and a kids' zone where famous puppet characters can be seen performing. Since it is a well-known fair, there is always a huge rush of people equivalent throughout the day. Then it gets more crowded during the weekend. Outside the Bangla Academy premises, there are more stalls displaying attractive handicrafts made of cane and clay. Authors of the books visit the book fair as well and meet with the readers. Sometimes people also get their books signed by their favorite authors. Ekushey book fair is a joyous occasion where people come to celebrate the precious language, literature and culture of our country.
