Explanation: Merits and demerits of Competition: When it comes to continuous self-development, competition indeed is a vital element. Without the competition, one might not grow the urge to develop or get better every single day. Furthermore, by looking into the factors that make one's competitors better in certain fields, one gets to know the places in which s/he can develop or the necessary traits s/he lacks. Only through rigorous competition does one know that the sky isn't the limit and that development is a perpetual process. But everything has its demerits and competition is no exception. A competitive mentality if ingrained in a mindset in excess proportions can lead to the growth of various negative traits like jealousy or hatred. Furthermore, it can push a person to a limit when s/he is no longer content with the work s/he is doing rather exhausted by the amount of people s/he has to defeat in the race of skills development. This can be detrimental to one's mental health and can lead to major problems in the long run. Despite the danger competition possesses, its existence is a major necessity for progress and innovation in all spheres of society.
