In London alone you can find tremendous diversity in the varieties of English. In the United States, likewise, the language differs somewhat from place to place and from one social \u201cclass\u201d to another. Many New Yorkers don\u2019t pronounce words as Chicagoans do, and in Denver people don\u2019t sound like those in Chicago. In some parts of the Southwest, Spanish influence shows up in the vocabulary; elsewhere, Germans and others have affected the English language.
